The best way i can think of to answer this is to tell you to do the Space Chicken tutorial, i learned a lot about all of this from that.
Its easy, fun, and you learn a ton about using the Ready Maker tool in general.
Once you understand how to put the pieces in, then you can grab free 2d assets online or make your own in whatever photoshop type tool you use.
